Shell Social Investment, responsible energy

Shell is investing in clean and efficient energy sources for the future. In all our business operations we aim to strike the right balance between economic, social and environmental aspects. In addition, through our Social Investment programme we pay attention to social developments in local communities.

Sustainable development Shell is a dynamic company, looking towards the future. We are seeking new resources, developing innovative technologies, producing energy and manufacturing oil products and chemicals. We do this with over 112,000 people in more than 140 countries. In order to maintain our success in the future, it is crucial to incorporate sustainable development in all our business operations. A liveable society Sustainable development leads to a liveable society. To achieve this, we need one another. Shell attaches importance to supporting community projects. Under the name of ‘Social Investment’ we develop projects that are centred on capacity building, education and social cohesion. Projects for children, students, voluntary workers and young entrepreneurs – but also for people in local communities. Shell supports with financial contributions but particularly by providing know-how and resources. 01
Nurturing talent Nurturing talent is central. Talent is the prerequisite for success. People must continue to develop and broaden their horizons, inside and outside their working environment. That’s why Shell encourages voluntary work and enterprise, because this generates fresh ideas and initiatives. Not just for Shell but for society as a whole. Tangible results The core of the Social Investment programme is that we aim to achieve tangible results. Not just noncommittal support, but working towards a durable objective. That’s why we launch many projects in partnership with community agencies. Once a project can stand on its own two feet, we move on to the next objective. In this way, we’re constantly working energetically towards a stronger society.   Group of Entrepreneurs 02
International scope Globally, we spend $170 million per year on social development projects. Each country develops its own projects, aligned with the needs of that particular society. In addition, the Shell Foundation was constituted in 2000 as an independent charity that focuses on global development and environmental challenges linked to the impact of energy and globalisation. Its mission is to develop, scale-up and promote enterprise-based solutions to the challenges arising from the impact of energy and globalisation on poverty and the environment.
